1st mangoes face the 1st imports from Pakistan
FJ
This is the first time that foreign mangoes are on the market during local mango season.
In Australia mango season begins in September and lasts until March. Recently, after multiple procedures and many health inspections during 3 years, Australia has approved imports of mangoes from Pakistan. The first shipment of mangoes (4.5 tonnes) just arrived at Perth, the pakistannaises exports could reach 15 000 tonnes / year.
AMIA (Australian Mango Industry Association) deplored that it is also the first time that foreign mangoes will be on the market during the mango season in Australia. The Association expressed great surprise, thinking that imports would occur during the Australian winter (May, June, July) and not during the mango season.
