Coca-Cola invests in citrus in Sicily

Financing of a project in Sicily by The Coca-Cola Foundation.
Coca-Cola will finance a project of Distretto Agrumi di Sicilia organization. The project concerns the "pastazzo" (the "dough" that is considered as waste in the production of juices and represents nearly 60% of the quantities of used citrus fruit). The dough will be converted into biomass to produce energy.
The project involves the Cooperativa Empedocles, a company specializing in the production of alternative energy, and the University of Catania. A delegation of U.S. giant is expected in Sicily to develop the operational aspects of the project. A platform and a pilot plant will start shortly.
