Purchases of potatoes rising again
Purchases of potatoes by French households have increased significantly in recent months.
For the 2011-2012 harvest household purchases are starting to rise during the first half of 2012. Quantities purchased have reached record levels between February and June. For the whole season, purchases rose by 7.5% in volume compared to 2010-11.
The average sale increased (2.8 kg against 2.7 kg). Small packages continued to take market share and now account for 7% of volume and 13% of value for purchases. But it is the large packages (+ 5kg) which grew the most (65.5% by volume).
