US apple harvest officially underway

According to the US Apple Association, the 2004 harvest is officially underway in the USA. The association estimates that 221.6 million cartons of apples will be harvested this year. Weather conditions during the summer were excellent in all the growing regions, which cover 36 American states, from California to Maine.
