Syngenta unveiled Spiropidion, a new insect control technology
Syngenta, one of the leading science-based agtech companies, announced launch of Spiropidion, a new innovative insect control technology. It will help farmers effectively and sustainably protect their crops from damaging by sucking pests, such as whiteflies, aphids and scales, which devastate fruit and vegetables (tomatoes, melons, oranges and other). A new active ingredient is safe for beneficial insects and pollinators, offering farmers a tool for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
The innovative Spiropidion is the result of chemistry within a rare class of insecticides, which helps crops from the inside and protect the whole plant body from the attack of harmful sucking pests. This secures the quality of crops, yields and farmers' livelihoods.
Jon Parr, President Global Crop Protection at Syngenta, commented this new technology is kind to nature but hard on pests. "Spiropidion is another clear example of how we are accelerating investment to deliver plant health innovations that support farmers, across the world, to grow productively and sustainably, he added.
The first global registration of a product containing Spiropidion took place in Guatemala in September 2020. There the product will be marketed under the ELESTAL® Neo brand in the coming months. Planned launches of formulations containing Spiropidion will also occur in Pakistan and Paraguay in 2021 and in Brazil in 2023 (pending registration). In the next six years, it is expected to launch products for a wide range of crops in more than 60 countries across all continents.
