The code on the label of bananas allows the consumer to locate the producer and virtually visit the farm.
Dole Europe has launched a new website that will allow consumers to discover everything about the bananas they purchase.
Consumers in northern Europe from this month can visit "dole-earth.com" to find the exact origin of bananas purchased. All Dole bananas sold in northern Europe have a label bearing a 5-digit code that identifies each farm
. By entering this code on the site, consumers can locate the farm of origin and see a virtual tour.
The site also provides other information on the fruit such as certifications and the entire production process. The site is available in English and German.
