This production rise is going to allow increasing exports towards China which has just opened to farm products of Taiwan.
Council of Agriculture (COA) indicates that Taiwan's total output of pomelos this year is estimated to increase by 22 % over last year.
Chen Wen-te, director of the COA's Agriculture and Food Agency, said exports of the fruit will also increase from around 200 tons last year to 500 tons this year.
Over 5,000 hectares of land are given over to pomelos in Taiwan, with Hualien in eastern Taiwan and Tainan in the south the top two production areas.
Recently, the Chinese market opened itself to agricultural products from Taiwan. And the COA noted the important Chinese commands.
This increase of production is going to make a rise of exports.
Taiwan mainly export to Hong Kong, Singapore and in North America.
Pomelo is traditionally associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. It will be this year on Sept. 22.
