The new Sugardrop variety is aimed at sweet toothed customers and children
Tesco has launched a tomato it describes as being "as sweet as a peach".
The new Sugardrop variety is aimed at sweet toothed customers and children who find standard tomatoes too sharp.
The Spanish-grown Sugardrop is a hybrid of two other tomato varieties and has around three times the natural sugar content of a standard tomato.
Tesco tomato buyer Ashleigh McWilliams said creating the Sugardrop was a long process which involved finding tomato seeds that could be cross-pollinated to produce a new strain.
Growers carried out trials for two years involving 3,000 different tomato types before deciding on the new variety.
