According to the Irish Federation of Agriculture (IFA), the supermarket price war on potatoes on the run up to Christmas 'was the last straw for potato growers'.
The IFA said that the price war was launched in the face of the hardship of growers coping with extreme weather conditions all year and losses in crops and the fact that there is still a high percentage of crops in the ground.
'Growers will not take anymore', the organization said. According to the IFA, a badly needed price increase to growers is vital.
