2025 marked a softer year for Peru’s banana exports, with higher prices providing only limited support as shipment volumes declined.

Peru exported lower volumes of bananas in 2025, a trend that was reflected in both shipment volumes and export value, according to Agrodata.

Total banana exports reached US$123.6m FOB, down from US$131.3m in 2024. Export volumes fell 10% year on year to 154.1m kg, compared with 170.6m kg the previous season.

Prices edged slightly higher. The average export price increased to US$0.80 per kilo, up from US$0.77/kg in 2024. This rise helped soften the decline in export value but did not fully offset the drop in volumes.

Exports were relatively stable month by month, although most months remained below last year’s levels. The slowdown was visible early in the year and continued into the final quarter. December closed with just under 13m kg, still lower than in December 2024.

The Netherlands remained Peru’s main destination, accounting for 34% of export value. The United States followed with 17%, while Panama, Italy and Belgium were also key markets. Smaller but steady volumes were shipped to Japan, South Korea, the UK, Sweden and Finland, keeping Europe at the centre of Peru’s banana trade.
