France
Friday 26 October 2001
Casino, France's second-biggest retailer, has reported its pre-tax sales for the last nine months rose by 20% as expected to Euro 15,81 billion. Domestic sales posted a 18,2% growth while its overseas businesses grew by 25,8%. This growth seems to be spurred by acquisitions including its stake in French retailer Monoprix and shares in store chains located in Taiwan, Uruguay and Venezuela. Casino, which ranks 22nd in the world's top 100 biggest food retailers, had a turnover of $17,62 billion last year.
