Abandoned crops ... because of the size of potatoes
FJ
Producers of the island of Jersey abandoned their crops of potatoes, because British consumers find them too large.
This year, the campaign announced excellent, the conditions were perfect, a good combination of rain, sunshine and mild temperatures. But these too good conditions have resulted in a tremendous growth of potatoes which are larger than their ideal size of 2.5 cm x 5 cm and often double.
The consumers are shunning (they must cut them!), Supermarkets refuse to buy and farmers are forced to let them rot in their fields or to give tons to charity.
The production of potatoes Jersey Royals represent approximately 70% of annual sales of agricultural affairs of the island and 99% of this production is exported to the United Kingdom.
