A recent report by IRU (International Road Transport Union) reveals that the European road transport sector is facing a shortage of professional drivers. The risk of Brexit could worsen the situation in the UK.
According to IRU, which collected data from its members between October 2018 and January 2019, the shortage of drivers is real. The organization estimates that one-fifth of the drivers are unfilled in the European road transport sector.
In the United Kingdom, professionals believe that Brexit could further aggravate the shortage of drivers. The UK transport sector is dependent on the drivers of the continent, especially Eastern Europe.
In case of Brexit, the lack of drivers will be even more serious and will cause disruption in the supply chains.
