Turkish farming is booming
Turkey

Back from a circuit in Turkey, our Fructidor's area manager gives us his impressions on a booming farming sector. Turkey is indeed a large citrus fruit exporter and stands for 80% of the fig market. Cherries (in the Alfion region) and fresh apricot (in the Malatay region) are fast developing sectors. Turkey is also one of the largest growers/exporters of shallot, potatoes, onions, but also chestnuts, nuts and of course apples and pears.
Turkey exports to the whole Europe - in particular to Germany and UK - but it is also like the garden of Eastern countries. Fruit stations there are ultramodern (ex. ALARA). On top of that, it is to be noted that this country provides for its food needs despite its 70 million inhabitants.
