The El Niño phenomenon will weigh on agricultural exports
FJ
The announced return of El Niño weather phenomenon will affect the production and exports of Peru.
According to CCEX, the Center for International Trade Chamber of Commerce of Lima, the impact of El Niño could amount to a decline by 2 to 4% of agricultural exports.
The north of the country from which many products intended for export (asparagus, mangoes, avocados, grapes, tangerines, bananas) will be less affected than the southern part of Peruvian territory.
The El Niño phenomenon is now weak, according to specialists, but will be strengthened. El Niño is the name given to anomaly of warmness of surface waters of the eastern Pacific Ocean. This phenomenon is cyclical and involves the entire Pacific waters which are warm in one side and by a toggle effect cool the other side and cause significant changes: dryness on one side, flooding of the other, and therefore affects all agricultural productions.
