The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) reports on important operational adjustments to improve transit efficiency in the interoceanic waterway.
From May 7 to 15, scheduled maintenance will take place at the Gatun locks, resulting in a planned reduction of daily transits at the Panamax locks from 20 to 17.
Subsequently, in response to improved water levels following the drought of the previous year, measures will be implemented to increase daily transits to 32. From May 16 to 31, transits at the Panamax locks will increase to 24, while The Neopanamax locks will facilitate 7 transits, making a total of 31.
Starting June 1, transits at the Neopanamax locks will increase to 8, achieving a total of 32 daily transits. In addition, starting June 15, an adjustment will be made to the maximum draft for vessels in the Neopanamax locks, increasing to 13.71 meters, from the current 13.41 meters.
These decisions are based on detailed analyzes of water availability and the implementation of water conservation measures, including the efficient use of Lake Alajuela water and recent rainfall. The ACP is committed to guaranteeing optimal and safe operation of the waterway, in line with international standards.
