The Tahiti lime constitutes 98% of Brazilian citrus exports, and is the third fruit most exported by Brazil, according to statistics from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics of the Luiz de Queiroz Higher School of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo (Cepea-Esalq/USP).
This week, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) reported that the Chilean market is now open for fresh Brazilian Tahiti limes. At the moment, the Brazilian state of Tocantins has only one production unit capable of supplying these fruits to the Chilean market.
Producers interested in selling this fruit to the Chilean market have to follow the determinations of resolution 7480/2021 of the Chilean government. It is also required to register the production units in the Agricultural Defense Agency of Brazil (Adapec) and refer to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil (Mapa), to obtain a Sanitary Certificate.
Adapec is the government agency responsible for controlling the health of plant products in the fields, and controlling quarantine pests and controlling the transit of vegetables. It is also responsible for registering the Production Units, monitoring quarantine pests and verifying the Tahiti lime procedure.
