WA - excellent stonefruit season.
Australia

Western Australian stone fruit growers are expecting a large and luscious crop this year, compared to last year, across the entire range of peaches, plums and nectarines.
Although there is a slight decrease in the volume of stone fruit compared to 2006, it means more leaves and roots available for fruit to pump the natural sugar and flavour into this season’s harvest, resulting in larger, sweeter fruit.
New varieties of low-chill plums, peaches and nectarines this year have extended the availability of early season stone fruit in WA. Some growers are planting plums and nectarines that ripen in April, using WA’s longer summers to extend the season, which benefits growers and shoppers.
Some of the new varieties available this year include the ‘Pluot’ plum-apricot crosses, bright orange apricots, and white fleshed, aromatic peaches and nectarines.
