MERCABARNA is the true "pantry" of the city but also of Catalonia for all the fresh products.
2017 is a very special year for MERCABARNA as it marks its foundation's 50th anniversary. In half a century, MERCABARNA has experienced a tremendous development of effort and enthusiasm for a clear goal: to work day and night to supply fresh produce.
Today, within a 90-hectare area, MERCABARNA brings together the central fruit and vegetable market, the central fish and meat market, as well as complementary activities. MERCABARNA welcomes 23,000 professionals each day and has more than 700 companies engaged in the processing, marketing and distribution of fresh products.
MERCABARNA markets more than 2 million tons of food, reaching more than 10 million consumers in Catalonia, Spain and the rest of the world.
The opening of the festivities took place on March 24th. During the official ceremony, a study on the evolution of fresh products for 50 years was presented. The celebrations will multiply and the program also provides a traveling exhibition that will tour the different districts of Barcelona.
