From January to September 2022, the European Union imported 1,446,133 tons of citrus, which reflects a decrease of 8.8% compared to the same term in 2021, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) of Spain.
The main supplier of citrus to the EU in that period was South Africa, with 598,334 tons (-4.8%), followed by Egypt, with 237,797 tons (-29.3%); Turkey, with 160,774 T (+22.5%); Argentina, with 142,061 T (+10.6%), Morocco, with 125,685 T (+1.3%) and Israel, with 66,902 T (+1.2%).
Of the total imported, some 560,803 tons corresponded to oranges (-23.0%), 413,724 tons to lemons (+20.1%), 326,447 tons to small citrus fruits (-5.7%) and 145,695 tons to grapefruit (-12.9%).
