In the United States, the Super Bowl is an American football game, the final game of the 2021 NFL (National Football League) season. It is the most watched sporting event, with one third of Americans watching on television. Guacamole is a popular snack for football fans glued to their screens and demand for avocados increases by 40% in February.

According to José Luis Gallardo, president of APEAM (Asociación de Productores y Empacadores de Aguacate de México), this Super Bowl could set a new export record. Last year, 135,000 tons of avocados were shipped for this event, this year an increase of +4% is expected, which would reach 140,400 tons of avocados.

Every year for the NFL games and especially the Super Bowl, avocados are in high demand in the US, because guacamole is a popular snack for football fans glued to their screens.

According to Juan Anaya, CEO of agricultural consultancy GMCA, avocado exports during the Super Bowl could be worth US$356 million, or 10% of annual US market revenue. Demand is up 30-40% in February. The US market imported just under 1.12 million tonnes of Mexican avocados in 2021, compared to 962,000 tonnes in 2020.

The LVI SuperBowl (56th edition) will pit the Los Angeles Rams against the Cincinnati Bengals on February 13, 2022 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The Super Bowl will be broadcast on NBC, which has received up to US$7 million for a 30-second commercial during the game. Last year's Super Bowl attracted 96.4 million viewers across all platforms.
