Reduced production and rising prices for fruits and vegetables in Australia.
By impacting northeastern Australia, Cyclone Debbie affected agricultural production in these regions but also supplies throughout the country.
The cyclone has devastated entire areas in northeastern Australia, with many crops (bananas, carrots, beans, corn, broccoli, salads, peppers ...). Immediate consequence, supplies are reduced and some products are no longer available in supermarket shelves.
Faced with this shortage and to meet demand, the sector turns to producers in the south of the country, but prices are rising. It is not unusual to have to pay almost 10 AUSD for 1 kilo of tomatoes, peppers or cucumbers. That is more than double the price paid last year by the inhabitants of the city of Adelaide.
