According to a survey conducted by OTA (Organic Trade Association) in 2020 demand has jumped for organic food in the United States. Compared to 2019, sales of organic food grew by + 12.2% and sales of fresh organic products by + 11%.
OTA (Organic Trade Association) conducted a survey of 2020 sales of organic products in the United States. Demand jumped and sales of organic food products reached $56.4 billion, a variation of + 12.2% compared to the previous year. In 2020, almost 6% of food sold in the United States was certified organic.
Sales of fresh organic products increased by almost 11% in 2020 to reach a turnover of $18.2 billion. Frozen and canned fruits and vegetables also jumped, with sales of frozen products alone increasing by more than 28%. Including frozen, canned and dried products, total sales of organic fruits and vegetables in 2020 reached $20.4 billion. More than 15% of fruits and vegetables sold in the United States are now organic.
Including organic non-food products, total sales reached $61.9 billion, a variation of + 12.4% and a growth rate more than twice that of 2019 (+ 5%).
This year 2020 has been a special year due to the pandemic but organic food sales are expected to remain on a strong growth path in 2021.
