Greenery opens door to foreign growers
Netherlands
Friday 04 January 2008
The Greenery's Membership Council has given the green light to a proposal from the management board which would allow selective membership for foreign growers.
Discussions on the subject have been ongoing since the beginning of 2007, and it was decided that the move would help to expand the Greenery's international position in the fruit and vegetables market.
Selective membership, which has now been allowed since the beginning of 2008, ensures foreign parties can only become members under specific circumstances.
Philip Smits, general manager at the Greenery, commented: "An internationally operating company such as The Greenery is obviously interested in opportunities to attract growers and consolidate its relationships with them. In addition, this is important for our clients outside the Netherlands who opt for home-grown products, or local for local'."
