ASOEX: South Korea is the fourth destination for Chilean fruits on the Asian continent

In recent days, representatives of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) have held several meetings with ambassadors of China and Japan, both important markets for Chilean fruit.
Ronald Bown Fernández, president of ASOEX, along with Miguel Canala-Echeverría, general manager of the entity, have also met with the ambassador of South Korea in Chile, Keun Ho Jang, and the general manager of CJ Freshway, Han Marcos Hyungshik. The meeting was held at the diplomatic headquarters of Korea.
Bown commented that the Ambassador expressed his interest in Chile's production and export processes. In addition, they have invited him to see cherry orchards and packaging sites next week. During the meeting, they discussed the negotiations that are beginning, regarding the entry of fresh Chilean plums to Korea.
Bown added that Asia became the second destination for Chilean fruit exports, receiving last season around 750.000 tons of fresh fruits.
According to ASOEX figures, South Korea is the fourth destination for Chilean fruits on the Asian continent. During the 2020/21 season, Korea received around 38.000 tons of fresh Chilean fruits, an increase of 7% compared to 2019/20. The most imported fruits were: table grapes (23.786 tons), cherries (5.533 tons), lemons (4.638 tons), blueberries (2.883 tons), oranges (527 tons), avocados (317 tons) and kiwis (266 tons).
