Spanish producer offers a resistant strawberry variety of exquisite flavour and quality

EL PINAR is a family producer of red fruit, fruit and plants, with a history of 40 years. It is the exclusive licensee for northern Africa and southern Europe for more than 20 years of the breeding programs of Plant Sciences Inc and Berry Genetics Inc, Californian companies and world leaders in breeding of raspberries and strawberries.

Its latest Victory strawberry variety is available to any grower of North Africa and Southern Europe. This variety comes from Berry Genetics program and stoods out with the good quality and its long shelf life.

Victory is an early and very productive variety, characterized by long postharvest life, which makes it a very safe variety for commercialization. It shows a very good quality, colour, flavour and size, it is heart shaped and reaches the markets in perfect condition.

The intake of this variety has been very positive due to its advantages that differentiates it from competitors: it’s an early, productive and very rustic variety, with a constant development throughout the season. Its unique postharvest life makes it perfect to reach the farthest destinations.

Even though the temperature in Huelva was low this season, Victory has presented a correct performance in the field. Low temperatures, rains and foggy days have caused a general delay in the production of all varieties and a high incidence of Botrytis due to humidity. 

Victory’s season starts at the end of December - beginning of January. Its production is stable until the end of the season, without peaks, which makes the harvest labour easy.

According to EL PINAR, previous season more than 100 million plants of Victory variety were planted in the Mediterranean arc, with a higher demand in the next season than the current one thanks to its good adaptability to the growing conditions in cultivation areas as well as increasing demand for Victory fruit from the markets.

For now, Victory represents more than 80 % of the national production in Greece and is acquiring special relevance in Italy and Morocco.

EL PINAR is one of the largest summer producers of berries in Spain, with a production that starts in May and lasts until November. They have production fields in Spain, Romania and Portugal, and distribute to farmers and customers throughout Europe.

They have a wide varietal range and different programs of breeding, among which they highlight those of Plant Sciences Inc. and Berry Genetics Inc., of which they've been licensees for more than 20 years.

Within this line of business, they have varieties adapted to their production areas, located in Segovia or Alentejo (Portugal), where they cultivate raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, currants and blueberries, under sustainable production techniques.
