The producers of Silifke in south-eastern Turkey started the season with excellent prices (around 2.5 Turkish lira per kilo 1 Euro = 3.6 Turkish lire).
This year around 1000 decars have been planted for a production of about 500 tons, of excellent quality. Half of this production will be exported to Iraq, with special packaging.
The beans are a vegetable of very ancient origin and are a deposit of vitamins. In this region of the world, it is a popular vegetable, both dry and fresh.
Turkey is a prime supplier to Iraq, its proximity is among other benefits. By 2015-2016, Iraq had become the leading exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables, taking its place in Russia, because of Turkey's and Russia's political issues.
