Boom in durian exports to China

Over the period January to October 2023, Vietnam exported durians worth 2.1 billion USD, of which almost 1.9 billion USD came from exports to China (Photo: mard.gov.vn).
In August 2022, China approved the import of fresh Vietnamese durian. Since then, volumes have grown rapidly.
According to VNA (Vietnam News Agency), exports of Vietnamese agricultural products to China have risen sharply, particularly those of durians. Citing statistics from the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association, which show that durian exports to China have registered up to +161.8% at certain times.
In the period from January to October 2023, according to the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association, the country exported durian worth 2.1 billion USD, of which almost 1.9 billion USD came from exports to China.
Durian exports are expected to continue to grow, driven by Chinese demand. In 2022, China imported 825,000 tonnes of durians worth an estimated 4.03 billion USD, according to Chinese customs data.
