Turkey is top producer of figs in the world

Turkey has no actual competitor as top producer and exporter of figs: 280.000 tons of total output, 9.000 of which are sold fresh on foreign markets. Egypt - 2nd producer - makes little exports and is surpassed by Spain. 3rd place both for output and export are Greece and Morocco. But as the former is falling, Morocco's rapid progress is competing Italian position within Med top exporters. Season goes from mid May to September.
