The famous 'Yanlemo Fruit Market located along Zaria Road at the Southern part of Kano state in Nigeria is known as the most dynamic and biggest fruit market in West Africa. It is currently situated in area of over 3000 hectares of land.
About 50 truck-loads of fruit come to the market every week mostly from the South-West of the country.
The market is among the most important commercial centres in Kano province and also plays a vital role to the development of the countrie's economy. Beside Nigerian merchants who came from some parts of Northern provinces to purchase fruit from major dealers, others also come from neighbouring Niger and Chad republics.
The market is beehive especially on Monday, Thursday and Saturday when traders from parts of Niger and Chad arrive to buy fruit. Apart from major merchants, petty traders and commercial food sellers also patronize the market as they display their wares for customers.
The main problem of the market is the shortage of the drainage system and the fact that the market is congested as there are no sufficient parking spaces and roads for easy movement of vehicles and individuals.
