Ecuador wants to be ahead of the Philippines in the Chinese market

Ecuador's banana exporters aim to outperform their competitors in the Philippines in the Chinese market.

AEBE (Asociación de Exportaciones Bananeras of Ecuador) , the association of banana exporters , through the voice of its president Jorge Alex Serrano , found that Ecuador may become China's largest supplier. Followed by the Philippines , the traditional supplier in the Chinese market.

In the month of November , Ecuador exported 250,000 boxes ( 13 kg ) per week to China. This represented an increase of its exports by 500%. According to AEBE these levels can be maintained and even exceeded , Ecuador is perfectly able to meet the growing demand from China.

At present , the Ecuadorian banana exports to major destinations in China ( 30%) and the US (25%) . Followed Europe, North Africa and Turkey.
