TOMRA Insight provides deep-dive data to monitor and optimize food sorting processes
After successful launch by TOMRA Sorting Recycling last year, TOMRA Insight is also available now to TOMRA Mining customers, TOMRA Food and Compac, which are members of the TOMRA Food family. For all these industries, the platform has been enhanced with new features and functionalities.
With TOMRA Insight, connected sorting and grading machines turns into devices, which generate valuable process data. This data is stored in the cloud, converted into actionable information, and accessed from anywhere via a web portal for desktop and mobile.
Since product quality is measured continuously, machine operators have the ability to make quickly and optimally adjust machine settings in real time in response to changes in product quality on the line. In addition, as TOMRA Insight provides deep-dive data, customers are now can make operational and business decisions based on information that is more complete.
Felix Flemming, Vice President and Head of Digital at TOMRA Sorting, noted that by capturing and leveraging of valuable data, TOMRA Insight is transforming sorting from an operational process into a strategic management tool. “This tool is constantly becoming more powerful as we continuously develop it in response to customers’ needs and priorities. New functionalities and features are released every three weeks - a routine during which TOMRA works closely with customers in pursuit of shared objectives,” he added.
Food processors participating in pilot installations, according Jeffry Steemans, Product Manager Digital at TOMRA Food, see improvements in product quality, higher throughputs, lower waste, and greater yields.
The Jersey Royal Company, the producer of the Jersey Royal new potato in the Channel Islands, conducted an early trial of TOMRA Insight and has now committed to the subscription service. Four of the company's sorting machines (one Halo and three TOMRA 5A's) have been connected to TOMRA Insight for over six months and have convincingly proven the efficiency of the data platform. “We are now also able to give better feedback to our growers. For example, we can flag-up very quickly if there are too many unwanted green potatoes coming through for processing. To us, it is clear that TOMRA Insight is well worth having,” commented Andrzej Kopacz, Operations Manager of the company.
