USA: The Tomato Lost its Position as Number 1 in Fresh Vegetable Value in 2007

The tomato lost its position at the top of the US fresh-market vegetable value list, in favour of lettuce, which increased by 31% over the previous year. According to the data released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its monthly report “Vegetables and Melons Outlook” (20th February), tomato production value went down by 21% in 2007.
