New US Mango Import Rules
Mexico
Thursday 10 April 2008
A new set of rules has been implemented by the US government regarding mango imports. However, this would not affect Mexican shipments, as Mexican and US authorities have signed a protocol concerning quality matters. According to the Mexican Phytosanitary Regulation at the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Sagarpa), shipments have to meet requirements but this proves the phytosanitary quality of products.
The procedure will have mainly an impact on prices: at present they amount between 50 cents and 1 peso; however the new rules should lead to their increase.
