The agricultural organizations of Huelva, including Freshuelva, the Association of Citrus Growers of the Province, Cooperativas Agro-Alimentarias Huelva, Asaja-Huelva, UPA-Huelva and the association of Irrigation Communities of Huelva (Corehu), have called on farmers to a demonstration in Seville on February 1. The protest aims to urge the Government to find solutions for the difficult situation faced by Huelva's agricultural sector due to the lack of water infrastructure and the current severe drought.
The agricultural organizations have taken this measure after not receiving a response to their requests addressed to the Minister of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, and the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, to discuss the urgent need to carry out works hydraulics in the province that have been in planning and laws for more than 20 years.
They regret the lack of gestures by the Government towards the farmers, despite the commitments made almost two months ago with the then subdelegate of the Government in Huelva, Manuela Parralo, which led to the cancellation of the protest scheduled for November 15.
They warn that, in addition to the meteorological situation, the lack of infrastructure aggravates the drought and further restricts consumption. They urge the Government to guarantee the resources of Bocachanza and undertake the works declared of general interest, pointing out the Alcolea Dam as crucial for agriculture and the future of the province.
