After 19 years of absence on this sector, OCT has just resumed banana imports in Tunisia.
OCT (Office of Commerce of Tunisia) is a public establishment whose mission is to regulate supply and demand. The organization is resuming the import of bananas to offer them "at reasonable prices".
Specialized in supplying the local market with staple commodities at fluctuating prices (sugar, coffee, tea, rice, etc.), the OCT had been excluded for 19 years from the importation of bananas by lobbies which had cornered this market.
OCT announced that it will resume importing bananas and marketing them in the country's supermarkets "at reasonable prices". Since this week the kilo of bananas is available at 3.9 dinars (1.16 euro / 1.31 USD). Prices were up to 7 dinars per kilo (2.09 euro / 2.34 USD).
