Without breaking the 2009 record, the pear harvest is promising this year
In the Valais, the pear harvest is looking good, according to the Interprofessional fruits and vegetables.
This year, the Swiss production of pears is looking promising. In the Valais, the pear harvest in 2009 was 9560 tons and in 2010, 15,520 tons. 13,000 tons is expected this year.
Nationally, pear production is often varied by year: 27,735 tonnes in 2007, 14,876 tonnes in 2008, 30,064 tons in 2009, 17,550 tonnes in 2010.
This year is particularly early, with the first harvests expected around August 20, while they usually occur in early September.
