Increased shipments of turmeric and ginger to Peru

In 2023, Peru experienced a notable increase in ginger exports, reaching 127.8 million dollars, representing a 79% growth compared to the previous year, which was 63,080,000 dollars, according to data from the Global Economy and Business Research Centre of the Exporters' Association (CIEN-ADEX).
Ginger has established itself as one of the most successful agricultural products, exceeding 100 million dollars in shipments.
In 2022, Peru ranked as the third largest exporter of ginger worldwide, with a total of 63,080,000 dollars and an 8.1% share of the global market, behind only China and the Netherlands.
Junín is the most important region for ginger production in the country, with 89.3% of the total, and mentioned Pangoa, Satipo and Pichanaqui as the most productive areas.
70% of the ginger exported by Peru is organic, grown without pesticides and under sustainable agricultural practices. More than 250 Peruvian companies are dedicated to the export of this product.
Fifty percent of exports go to Europe, 40% to the United States and the remaining 10% to other Latin American countries, with the United States being the main individual destination.
As for turmeric, turmeric exports in 2023 amounted to USD 5.6 million, an increase of 34% over the previous year. Turmeric is being marketed not only fresh, but also in dehydrated, powdered and extract forms.
Peru was positioned as the world's eighth largest exporter of turmeric in 2022, with sales of $4,229,000 and a 1.1% share of the global market.
