The only port in Slovenia, the port of Koper (in Slovenian: Luka Koper, in Italian: Porto di Capodistria) is considered as an important point of entry or exit for Central Europe. Located in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea, it quickly links the markets of central and south-eastern Europe with the Mediterranean Sea and the Far East.
The Wroclaw - Katowice / Ostrava - Koper rail link allows the import and export of many Polish products. Especially food products, fruits and vegetables that benefit from faster delivery from a port in the Adriatic.
Container traffic between Poland and the Slovenian port of Koper has grown considerably. From less than 1,500 TEU in 2011 the traffic has increased to 10,321 TEU in 2017 and 13,464 TEU in 2018, an increase of 30% compared to 2017.
This year, container traffic growth remains at the same level and could reach 17,200 TEUs by the end of the year.
