Beginning of harvest and Zespri anticipates production similar to last year
MD
The 2011 season has just begun in New Zealand and according to the first indications, the volume of kiwifruit production will be similar to last year.
The 2011 season should reach about 100 million trays of kiwifruit exported. The number of orchards affected by the PSA disease is less than 2% of production, which will not impact on volume of export sales this year.
Producers in the Gisborne region are the first to begin the harvest. The first shipments will begin next week. The selling season of Zespri kiwifruit will begin in mid-April in Asia and at the beginning of May across Europe and North America.
