A special train for fruit and vegetable will connect wholesale markets

India will launch a rail transportation system dedicated to fruit and vegetables, which will connect its wholesale markets.
It will connect the country's wholesale markets to reduce wastage of fruit and vegetables caused by transport slower. India loses a significant portion of its production because of its lack of infrastructure, transport and cold chain.
The cost of this project is estimated at 4 million U.S. dollars. It is collaboration between the National Council of Horticulture (EPN), the company Container Corporation of India (CCI) and the Indian Railways.
The train will contain 90 containers with bananas, grapes, pomegranates and flowers. The Mumbai-New Delhi route via Bhusawal and Agra will be assured 2 times per week. Commissioning is scheduled for the month of March.
