Frutinter obtains pioneer Zero Nitrate Footprint Certification for clementines
VU | Frutinter SL
Frutinter is the first company in the world to obtain the Zero Nitrate Footprint Certification for its clementines. It is a pioneer stamp in the world.
Manuela Yllera Mota, the Director of Food Certification Rina Spain and Portugal, of Rina Services SpA, the Italian certifier, was in charge of handing over the certificate, together with Mr. Francisco Espinos Gutiérrez, Area Director of Business and Employment Chairs - UPV and Dr. Pedro Beltrán Medina, director of the Frutinter Chair and professor at the ETSIAMN-UPV.
Mr. Javier Usó, the General Director of Frutinter, together with his brother Jorge Usó, Purchasing Director and sister Pilar Usó, Financial Director, collected the certificate.
The event was held as part of the committee of the Frutinter UPV Chair, which was created in 2018 in order to promote sustainable development on their farms with the use of innovative technologies and with the implementation of methodology SMART, which involves the integration of a network sensors in the field that allow to learn in real time different aspects of crops, such as vegetative development or stress, as well as a microclimatic forecast of the farm. That is, all the important data to obtain a clear diagnosis of what is happening on the ground and in the environment in order to adjust fertilization and irrigation to specific conditions.
The results obtained by Frutinter and the team from the Polytechnic University of Valencia have led to a revolution optimizing water consumption to the needs of the plants and reducing labor costs by up to 65%. This innovation has resulted in a more uniform fruit, an improvement in the size of the fruit and a higher yield of the plot.
Motivated by these results, they continued to work as a team to achieve a pioneering seal that certifies the nitrate footprint and that scientifically certifies the non-contamination by nitrates in underground aquifers.
The Nitrate Footprint Certificate guarantees the quality and safety of Frutinter clementines, which have been produced in a soil not saturated with fertilizers, free of residues. Frutinter takes care of the health of people and the planet.
The company continues to collaborate in research projects with the UPV_ACUMA, RC and with other organizations, both social and scientific, in order to improve the quality of life of society.
