In 2020, Spain supplied 424.000 tons of citrus for the Lidl supermarket chain. These data shows that for another year Spain remains the main citrus exporter for the entity, reports Europa Press.
According to a study by PwC consultant, the chain buys more than 16 percent of all fruit and vegetables of Spanish origin and accounts for 14 percent of total exports.
Up to 91 percent of the total volume was distributed to more than 11.000 European stores, mainly in Germany, France and Poland.
The general director of purchases of Lidl Spain, Miguel Paradela, specified that he continues to work with different local producers in order to support the Spanish agricultural sector, presenting regional products in their Spanish stores, such as oranges and lemons from Mallorca and Tierras del Ebro.
Lidl works with more than 140 suppliers from Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and Andalusia.
