The year 2011 will be remembered as an outstanding season for summer fruit in Switzerland.
This year will be remembered as an exceptional year for fruit production in Switzerland.
A hot, dry spring allowed early harvest in all regions of the country. Rains in early summer and warm weather have been favourable to crops.
Fruit-Union Suisse (FUS) has indicated that the fruit harvest reached 32,897
tons, or 35% above the average for the last 4 years. Production of summer fruits broke records: strawberries reached 6,419 tonnes (11%), cherries 3,118 tonnes (approximately 60%), apricots 5,306 tonnes (25%) and prunes 3,715 tonnes (22%).
