La Libertad is the main producing region of blueberries in Peru. The region’s exports of this berry have already surpassed $99 million so far this year, and will increase further by expected 20% compared to the previous year, says Angela Maza, director of the Faculty of Business of the Private University of the North (UPN).
The main destinations remain the United States, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, England and China.
Maza recalled that in the campaign 2021, blueberry exports totaled 206.000 tons, generating significant income for the provinces of Trujillo, Virú, Chepén and Ascope, regions where the berry is cultivated.
