Polish apples go east
Poland
Tuesday 30 January 2007
Up to 50 big lorries, each about 30 tons load, full of apples leave the region of Sandomierz in the south-east of Poland, daily and drive east!
Most of bought apples are the cheapest and most expensive sorts. The spread of price is quite wide.
Starting from 0,11 EUR for one kilo of champion to 0,60 EUR for Golden Delicious.
Especially this last variety is very demanded - but there is a shortage of goods.
Some businessmen found it profitable to import apples from Italy and sell them as reexport to eastern countries because the market there is so absorbing.
