Small production of canned tomatoes

Industrial production of canned tomatoes has fallen in Italie.

Coldiretti, the farmers' association, announces a -15% drop for industrial production of canned tomatoes produced in Italy.

This decline is followed by the harvests that are the lowest in the last 10 years. The campaign 2013 did not exceed 40 million quinteaux, the lowest level since 2002, much below the average of 52 million quinteaux observed during the decade.

The causes of this production decline are multiple : hail and insect attack in some regions, excess of rains, late harvest operations, but also decrease of investments and especially weakness of planted areas (-15%).
