SENASA certification opens the way for 210 tonnes of fresh Manzano rocoto from Castrovirreyna to reach buyers in the United States and Europe.
Peru’s Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, through SENASA, has certified a rocoto production site in Huayao, Villa de Arma district, Castrovirreyna province, marking the third consecutive campaign in which Huancavelica’s crop has met export requirements.
The certified area covers six hectares of Manzano rocoto, with expected production of around 210 tonnes of fresh fruit for international markets. According to SENASA, the approval followed phytosanitary inspections that confirmed compliance with pest monitoring, sanitary control and integrated pest management measures required for export.
The certification gives Huancavelica a stronger position in Peru’s agroexport map and creates room to expand rocoto cultivation in new valleys over the coming seasons. For local family farming, the crop is becoming a more profitable alternative, helping generate income and support rural economies.
In 2025, Huancavelica producers supplied more than 100 tonnes of rocoto to the United States and European markets. With certified export production projected to grow in 2026, SENASA expects the region to build on that progress and reinforce the presence of Peruvian rocoto in high-value destinations.
