The Port of Antwerp is testing the use of an electronic bracelet to stem the spread of COVID-19 among its teams.
The Port of Antwerp partners with digital technology company Rombit. Rombit has designed an electronic bracelet, called Romware Covid Radius, which guarantees social distancing and the monitoring of physical contacts. The Port of Antwerp is testing this device in preview.
This new electronic bracelet first of all ensures social distancing by emitting a signal when people get too close to each other. Respect for privacy remains guaranteed, however, since the device does not send the employer any information on the location of the carrier or any other sensitive data. The electronic bracelet also allows contact tracking: in the event of contamination of an employee, a prevention adviser or an authorized trusted person can check with which colleagues this person has come into contact in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of the Port of Antwerp explains: "Innovation and digital transformation are precious tools in times of crisis. It is essential that the port area continues to function and that the safety of our employees is ensured."
John Baekelmans, CEO of Rombit says: "The activities of tomorrow, respecting a physical distance of one and a half meters, are based on reliable tools. We are doing everything in our power to quickly produce this new bracelet in quantity and thus contribute to the resumption of economic activity under optimal security conditions. Our invention is already generating a lot of interest abroad."
