Fruit imports in 2023 reached 7.52 million tonnes, worth USD 16.85 billion. The main fruits imported by China in 2023 were fresh and frozen durian, followed by fresh cherries and bananas (Photos (vietnam.vn/Ricky-chong888/philstar.com).
According to an official Chinese report, imports of food and agricultural products (meat, cereals, aquatic products, fruit, dairy products, vegetable oils) in 2023 reached USD 140 billion, including USD 16.85 billion worth of fruit.
According to a report published by the China Chamber of Commerce for Food Import and Export, fruit imports in 2023 totalled 7.52 million tonnes (up 3% on 2022), worth USD 16.85 billion (up 15%).
In terms of value, the main fruits imported by China in 2023 were fresh durian (USD 6.72 billion) and frozen durian (USD 1.04 billion), followed by fresh cherries (USD 2.65 billion), bananas (USD 1.08 billion), mangosteens (USD 730 million), coconuts (USD 580 million) and kiwis (USD 490 million).
In terms of supplier countries, the main ones in 2023 were Thailand, Chile, Vietnam, the Philippines, New Zealand, Peru, Australia, Malaysia, South Africa and Indonesia.
